Skip Hop Studio Tote Overview

The Skip Hop Studio diaper bag is a carry-all, go anywhere type of diaper bag that’s big on space and big on style. It comes in six great colors. There are three solid colors: black, champagne and chocolate as well as three patterned designs: pewter dot, charcoal dot and the vibrant purple plum burst.

The Studio tote features a total of 14 pockets, two insulated pockets on the outside suitable for bottles or sippy cups, The main bag has a zip closure as do a couple of the pockets. The bag comes with a cushioned Skip Hop changing mat with a velcro closure and one of pockets also has an antimicrobial lining so that you can put in things that you want to keep clean, maybe pacifiers or teethers, or if you use cloth diapers you could keep the dirty ones in there to keep them away from the other things in the bag.

Two detachable stroller straps come included so you don’t have to carry it all the time and the bag has four nickel feet so that you can set it down anywhere without worrying about it getting scuffed. Each Skip Hop Studio baby changing bag measures 12 inches in height, 17 inches in width and 6 inches in depth, so there’s a whole lot of room to put all your baby gear plus your own things in there too. Q. Can I get everything in it?

A. Yes, definitely… there’s plenty of space and with all those pockets you can keep everything in it’s own separate compartment. This bag is great for Moms who want to keep everything nice and organized. Of course if you just want to drop everything in there that will work too.

Q. Can I use it as a purse?

A. Yes, this is definitely a purse style baby changing bag, so if you want to go out in stealth mode you can. It’s also big enough to fit most laptops, so it will still have life in it after your little one has grown out of the diaper stage. .

Q. Will Daddy carry it?

A. We think so… yes. While it’s not quite as masculine as a Diaper Dude bag, there are no flowers or cartoon character, so we’re pretty sure that most men wouldn’t have a problem with carrying it. Maybe not so much the Plum Burst design, but the other colors are neutral enough not to make Daddy cringe.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages: What We Love About It

We love the size of this bag and the fact that it’s got so many pockets to keep even us less organized Mommies in order. The large size means that it’s perfect for Moms who have a baby and a toddler.

The classy style means you can take this one with pretty much everywhere you go.

We love the choice of colors and with the addition of the new Plum Burst it means there’s likely to be something to suit everyone.

Disadvantages – What’s Not So Perfect

This is a big diaper bag… it will hold absolutely everything that you need, but that’s not suitable for every single occasion. On the website it says that this bag is suitable for the mall, the playground and parties. It also says you could wear it with a little black dress.

Ok, the mall… yes. The playground… yes. Parties… daytime birthday parties… definitely. But with a little black dress… honestly ladies… don’t do it. By all means take it with you and leave it in the trunk of your car, but choose a small diaper bag to keep your essentials in when your actually at the party. Better yet, get Grandma to babysit and go out on your own once in a while. You need some time to yourselves every now and then.

A couple of people have remarked that the red Skip Hop logo on the front really gives it away as a baby bag. Now this really is a diaper bag that looks like a purse, so maybe you don’t want to advertise that there’s diapers inside. I guess this is just a matter of personal taste: for every Mom who wants to disguise the fact that she’s carrying a changing bag, there will be another one who’s proud to advertise that her diaper bag is from Skip Hop. If you really don’t like it, you could cut it off, but just keep in mind that if you think you might want to sell it in the future then cutting off the designer label will seriously lower the price that you will get for it.

More importantly, some customers have said that they had problems with the durability (or lack of it) of the studio model. It seems that in a few cases the seams of the bag have come undone and there was particular wear to the handles. Firstly this seems to only have been in a few isolated cases and we believe that Skip Hop have been quick to fix the problem with the handles. If you do happen to get a bag that has a flaw in it, you don’t have to suffer. You are spending a considerable amount on a diaper bag and you want it to be right. Contact the manufacturer if you have any problems and provided you are the original owner, they should send you a replacement.

Having said that, here is a video we found from a Mom of three who has been using her Skip Hop Studio for a year with hardly any wear & tear at all. There’s a little stain on the back where she says she hasn’t gotten around to cleaning it yet, but other than that it looks as good as new.
